NIobium Sputtering Targets

Niobium(Nb) is a silver gray, rare, soft, and ductile transition metal. The purity of niobium targets can reach over 99.95%, with small grain size, good recrystallization structure, and good triaxial consistency.

DESCRIPTION

The chemical symbol Nb, atomic number 41, atomic weight 92.90638, belongs to the Ⅴ B group of periodic system. In 1801, C. hachet isolated an oxide of a new element from niobium and named it columbium. Niobium is a gray white metal with a melting point of 2468 ℃, a boiling point of 4742 ℃ and a density of 8.57g/cm3. Niobium is a kind of gray metal with luster and paramagnetism. It belongs to five groups in the periodic table of elements. The higher the purity of niobium, the higher the ductility. The capture cross section of niobium for thermal neutron is very low, so it is very useful in nuclear industry.

Popular Usage

Superconducting materials with wide applications

2.A large part of niobium in the world is used in the production of nickel, chromium and iron-based superalloys in the form of pure metal or high-purity ferroniobium and niobium nickel alloys. These alloys can be used in jet engines, gas turbine engines, rocket components, turbochargers and heat-resistant combustion equipment

3.Niobium also plays an important role in surgery. It can not only be used to manufacture medical devices, but also is a good "biocompatible material".

4. Niobium (or mixed with 1% zirconium) is the sealing material of arc tube of high pressure sodium lamp, because the thermal expansion coefficient of niobium is very close to that of sintered bauxite arc lamp ceramic material. The ceramic used in the sodium lamp can resist chemical attack and will not react with the high temperature sodium liquid and gas in the lamp. Niobium is also used on arc welding rods to weld certain stabilized stainless steels. In the cathodic protection system of some large water tanks, niobium is used as anode material, and the anode is usually coated with a layer of platinum.
